Synopsis
Once a goldmine for the entire Venezuelan population thanks to its oil reserves, the region surrounding Lake Maracaibo is now abandoned. Stricken by drought and pollution, forgotten by the government, the floating village of Congo Mirador sees its inhabitants inexorably exile and die little by little. In the midst of this progressive disaster, Anabel Rodríguez Rios explores a politically divided Venezuela from a local perspective and addresses some key moments in the country’s history through two extraordinary matriarchal figures. One is an early Chavista, the most loyal of the party, and the local representative of the government. The other is the only teacher in the village and is not a member of the party. Filmed over a period of seven years, the documentary highlights the chaos that reigns in the country through the personal and militant quarrels of its protagonists.
