Synopsis
Lampedusa lies some 110 kilometers from the coast of North Africa. Lampedusa in Winter gives us a strong impression of what it is like to be the first place to receive people who are on the run, revealing the internal conflicts of the 4500 islanders, when they are involuntarily faced with laws and regulations on the one hand, and their humanity on the other hand. Being a stepping stone to Europe for streams of African refugees, this tiny community, located at the edge of Europe, is engaged in a desperate fight for dignity and solidarity for those who many consider to be the cause of the ongoing crisis: the African boat people.
