The defense and support of freedom of expression and information is one of the great causes supported by the Millennium Film Festival since its origins. Debates and events have been organized on the subject and this theme will continue to be a central element of the 2021 Festival’s program !
In this context, it seems important for the Festival to underline the good news received at the beginning of 2021 concerning Julian Assange, whistleblower and founder of WikiLeaks. The British justice system has refused the request for extradition to the United States, which wants to judge him for espionage. This is a step in the right direction, even if his release has unfortunately also been refused by the British government.
Relevant, reliable and quality information remains a fundamental and indispensable right for the proper functioning of democracies. It is one of the raison d’être of the Millennium Film Festival, which will continue to defend this right through its program !
