24 November, 7.30 pm, CIVA
As part of Mois du Doc, Millenium invites you to discover Ya me voy (2016), by Sébastien De Buyl, a poetic journey into a Mexican fishing village where those who are gone continue to inhabit the world of the living.
A film born of a journey and a loss
While travelling, Sébastien De Buyl happens upon the village of Salinas. Already in Mexico when he learns of a friend’s death, he is welcomed by the villagers and spends more than seven months there, learning, sensing and understanding how they live with death, while questioning his own relationship with grief.
The director describes the filming as an experience of subtle manifestations of his late friend’s presence. Cinema becomes a ritual space for him, a refuge in which to explore the possibility of maintaining a connection with his friend.
A discussion with Sébastien De Buyl and Marion Bottero
The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Sébastien De Buyl and anthropologist Marion Bottero, exploring the presence of the deceased in our lives, the role of rituals and how other ways of thinking can transform our perspective.
Marion Bottero holds a PhD in anthropology and is a researcher at Crebis in Brussels and a research associate at ULB. Her work focuses in particular on social inequalities and subjectivity in research.
