Belgium is so deeply connected to chocolate culturally that UNESCO has recognized it as part of Brussels’ intangible cultural heritage. To put this into perspective, each Belgian consumes around 7 kg of chocolate per year.
Have you ever wondered what lies behind your favorite chocolate bar? Is it possible to produce ethical chocolate at an affordable price today? How can we ensure the protection of cocoa farmers?
American lawyer Terry Collingsworth, who has dedicated his life to abolish slavery and human trafficking, investigates these themes in the documentary The Chocolate War, by Miki Mistrati. For more than a decade, he has been fighting against industry giants Nestlé and Cargill in court for violating the U.S. Constitution.
Come discover what lies on the other side of the cocoa bean through this powerful investigation.
After the screening, our expert guests will discuss the socio-economic, environmental, and legal challenges facing fair-trade cocoa.
Discussion followed by a drink and fair-trade chocolate tasting, to celebrate the first film club organized by the Millenium Festival, in line with our values of solidarity.
