April 30, 2026, 6:30–8:30 PM, Louise 107
How does life look when you are a single mother, a refugee, and faced every day with a constant uphill battle to find housing, work, or simply exist in daily life? Between insecurity, isolation, and complex administrative procedures, these women often have to rebuild everything without any network or support, in circumstances where intersecting forms of discrimination related to gender, family situation, socio-economic vulnerability, and origin further hinder access to employment, housing, and decent living conditions.
The Millenium Festival presents a screening of video testimonies by single refugee mothers, followed by a discussion with participants and professionals. The aim is to make often invisible stories visible and to foster a better understanding of these realities.
Listening to these testimonies means acknowledging these life paths and giving them a place in the public sphere. For the mothers, it is a form of recognition and validation of their voices. It is also an opportunity to challenge preconceived ideas, better understand mechanisms of discrimination, and become aware of social issues that concern us all.
Finally, one video will also address the rights of single refugee mothers, in order to provide better information on the resources available.
