Synopsis
Lawand is een jongeman van 5 jaar uit Irak, wiens familie alles op alles zet om naar Engeland te gaan en zich in te schrijven bij de Royal School for the Deaf Derby. Lawand is in paniek, maar kan hij blijven en zijn opleiding voortzetten? Le réalisateur associe une caméra itinérante à une musique transcendante pour envelopper les spectateurs dans le monde intérieur largement dépourvu de langage parlé.

Director's Biography
Edward LOVELACE: Edward Lovelace staat bekend om zijn veelgeprezen werk, waaronder zijn bekroonde derde speelfilm die hij samen met James Hall regisseerde, THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS (2014 - SXSW, BFI London Film Festival) en hun VOLVO x SKY ATLANTIC documentaireserie Human Made Stories (Cannes Lions, Tribeca Film Festival 2020). Zijn eerdere werk omvat ook A SONG STILL INSIDE (2020 - korte verhaallijn), KATY PERRY: PART OF ME (2012 - lange documentaire) en WEREWOLVES ACROSS AMERICA (2010 - lange documentaire). Zijn meest recente speelfilm NAME ME LAWAND (2022) won Best International Film op Hot Docs 2023, ontving een Grierson Award 'Best Feature Documentary' nominatie op het BFI London Film Festival 2022 en is genomineerd voor een One World Media 'Refugee Reporting' Award. NAME ME LAWAND wordt in juli 2023 uitgebracht door BFI Distribution in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Ierland. Momenteel ontwikkelt hij ook een fictiefilm met BBC Film.
