HIDING SADDAM HUSSEIN

Synopsis

A simple Iraqi farmer who gets an unexpected guest knocking on his door. A guest who must be hidden from family, friends and 150 000 American soldiers. The guest is President Saddam Hussein. The footage of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein crawling out of a hole in the ground in 2003 is iconic. Now, 20 years later, the man who dug that hole tells the fantastical story of how he, an ordinary farmer, hid the deposed president beneath a flowerbed in his garden for eight months.

Director's Biography

Halkawt MUSTAFA: Halkawt Mustafa is a Norwegian-Kurdish director, screenwriter and producer born in Iraq. His second feature film, EL CLÁSICO, won international acclaim and was shortlisted by Iraq for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. It went on to win awards at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Norwegian Oscars.
At the same time, Halkawt Mustafa gained unique insights as a journalist, reporting from Syria, Gaza, Iraq and other parts of the Middle East.
