Toto, 9 years old, lives with his older sisters Andreea and Ana in a run down neighbourhood near Bucarest. The three Roma children are crammed into a single room. When he was five, Toto was forced to witness the arrest of his mother Siminca by a special unit of the Romanian police. She was charged with drug trafficking and sentenced to life in prison. The children are thus left to their own devices. For Toto and Andreea, life changes when they are finally taken in an orphanage.
