THE SUBMISSION OF FILMS FOR THE 11th EDITION OF THE MILLENIUM FESTIVAL IS NOW OPEN!
The 2019 edition of the Millenium International Festival will take place from March 22nd to 30th 2019 in Brussels.
The Festival was created to promote documentary film and its creators, a cinema that reflects the social and cultural issues, as well as economic, humanitarian and environmental issues. Its mission is to support and promote the work of independent filmmakers, to discover new talent, contribute to the dialogue with the public, and to support the development of film language.
The selection criteria will primarily focus on the cinematic quality of the films, their perspective, diversity, commitment to their subject and authenticity of the filmmakers’ approach. The Festival is open to all filmmakers, irrespective of nationality. News reports and news magazines will not be taken into consideration.
Films entered must have been produced after January 1st 2017.
Competition & Awards
A Jury constituted of film and culture professionals, and of personalities from the field of development shall assign the following award :
Objectif d’Or – Award for the best film
Objectif d’Argent – Award for the film that shows the sustainable development of the planet in the most complex, engaged and original way
Objectif de Bronze – Award for the film with the best Message for Human Rights
Special Prize of the Jury – Award for the film with the most original point of view regarding its content and cinematic qualities
Award La Trois – Broadcasting prize granted by a Jury of professionals from the La Trois channel
Audience Award – Award granted by a Jury composed of 30 volunteers from the audience
"Belgian Cinema" Competition
“Young Vision” Competition
A special selection of films will be viewed by a Jury of 20 young volunteers, who will grant the Young Vision Award.
“World’s Workers” Competition
A special selection of films viewed by a Jury of 20 volunteers from the enterprise world will be granted the “World’s Workers” Award.

Directors or producers can register their films online via the Festival’s website (www.festivalmillenium.org), by filling in the registration form that you can find at the end of this document.
There is no duration limit for the films. The submission of the film is free.
For the submission, films must be sent :
in their original language
with subtitles in French or in English
with a transcript in French or English
In case you would like to add a special clause together with this submission or in case your film is subject to particular conditions (candidate/selected for other festivals, public projections in Belgium before March 20th, 2019, or any other remark), we ask you to inform us at the registration form (please note it at the ‘comment’ box on the form)
Sending of film for the pre-selection
A copy of the film needs to be sent for pre-selection viewing:
via mail on a DVD to the Festival’s office address: 2, Rue de la Vanne 1050 Bruxelles, Belgium
via wetransfer to email@example.com, in the following formats: .mov, .mp4 or .avi or a link on Vimeo, Youtube, etc.
Documents and DVD copies are sent at the applicants’ own expense and risk. The organizers will not assume any liability. Please note ‘For Cultural Use Only’, to prevent any problems with the customs. Entries and film selection copies must be sent to the Festival office no later than December 9th 2018 (stamp postmark). All the films that are sent without registration will not be taken into account.

Organizational principles of the selection
The selection committee checks that entries fully comply and respect the Festival’s philosophy. Furthermore, the selection committee will make viewing suggestions for a film to take part in the competitions or for a panorama.
Films selected to take part in the competitions or in a panorama
Applicants will be informed by email about the film’s selection and whether it will be taking part in a competition or in a panorama.
In the event of a selection in a competition or a panorama, the producer of the film or any other authorized person undertakes to send no later than January 31st 2019:
Promotional material (photos, trailers, awards, etc.)
A screening copy in perfect condition and appropriate definition (formats: .mov, .mp4, .avi, Bluray, Apple Pro Res or H264 minimum 8000 Kb/s, 25 fps, Audio 48 kHz)
The subtitles (French and/or English) and transcript accompanying the film
In case there is no trailer provided by the filmmaker(s)/producer(s), the Festival reserves the right to produce one to place on the website for promotional purpose.
DVD’s submitted for the selection will not be returned. Directors and producers accept to entrust the screening copy (DVD) to the Millenium Festival’s archives. The Festival will assure the return of the projection copies of the films that are presented during the Festival according to the indications that have been given to this effect.
The producer or any other authorized person is requested to:
Make sure the prizewinners will take part to the award ceremony.
Mention in any media reports and in any promotional material the prize(s) awarded at the 11th edition of the Millenium Festival.
Inform the Millenium Festival if the film was, is or will be submitted to another festival in Belgium.
In case the producer(s)/filmmaker(s) withdraws the film after having signed the registration form or after being selected, a compensation of 300 euros will be demanded.
The Festival will not pay screening fees for the selected films.
Attendance of the filmmaker(s)
Expenses related to the invitation of the directors of the selected films will be specifically defined by mail (letter, e-mail, etc.) sent by the Board of the Millenium Festival. The Festival will invite filmmakers within the boundaries of its possibilities and the support of its partners. In the case of co-direction, the Festival will only cover the expenses for one invitation.
The Festival shall bear the cost of insurance solely for the period between receiving copies and sending them back. In the case of loss or damage during this period, the Festival’s responsibility is confined to the replacement value of the film or video copy.
The applicant ensures to have the agreement of all copyrights holders to use the film’s copyright for the Festival.
Copyright holders authorize the organizers of the Millenium Festival to:
Proceed to screenings free of distribution rights during the Festival.
Broadcast extracts of less than 3 minutes for promotional purposes as part of a television or radio broadcast, or on the Internet.
Any film entered for the Millenium Festival – whether selected for competition or not – will remain accessible outside the Festival period to a professional audience (directors, technicians, producers, distributors, program directors of other Festivals, journalists, researchers, students, etc.) on VHS or DVD copyright-free, in the Festival’s permanent video library located in its offices. In return, the Festival undertakes to refrain from any commercial exploitation thereof.
To enable the continuity of the Millenium Festival’s goals, which is to promote qualitative documentary films, life-long learning and public awareness, the copyrights holders of the film allow the Millenium Festival to present the film only 12 months following the end of the 2019 edition’s competition for non-commercial screenings for school children, in cultural centers.
Participation in the Millenium Festival implies the acceptance of these regulations. All cases not specifically foreseen shall be subject to a non-appealable decision of the Festival’s Executive Committee, taking into account the international rules of the FIAPF.
