A CONFERENCE ON THE THEME: The impact of current agricultural policies on the life standard and conditions for development

Olivier De Schutter is a legal academic and human rights expert. A Harvard graduate now resident in Belgium, he was appointed UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food by the Human Rights Council in March 2008. He still teaches international human rights law, European Union law and legal theory at the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium, as well as at the College of Europe (source wikipedia).

In his unusual direct way of speaking, this outstanding personality and great contributor to Senegalese civil society gives his point of view on the issues of rural development and traces back the different stages of the “Senegalese Movement of the Peasants” since its beginning. He advocates democracy and consolidation of the economic integration within West-Africa.
