Synopsis

Thirty years after a chance encounter, Maggie Barrett and Joel Meyerowitz, aged 75 and 84, are still very much in love. But their relationship is not without complications. Meyerowitz is a world-renowned photographer. Barrett is a talented but not recognised artist and writer. There is a knot of unease in their relationship, which is further strained when Maggie falls and breaks her leg. With unique access to the couple’s lives, directors Jacob Perlmutter and Manon Ouimet have created a profoundly moving film about living, creating and loving.

Director's Biography

Jacob Perlmutter is an award-winning photographer and self-shooting film director with a BA Honors in Film Production from the Arts University College Bournemouth. In 2016, he developed his screenplay writing at The Screen Arts Institute. His work includes over twenty music videos and several short films. Previous projects he both directed and DoP’d include “Who is My Brother”? (2020), “San Francisco Love Story” (2013) and “El Musgo” (2013). “Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other” is Jacob’s first step in documentary film.

Manon Ouimet is an Arts Council England-supported photographer and artist who has exhibited at the likes of the Saatchi Gallery and The Jewish Museum. Her accolades include the British Photography Award, the Feature Shoot Emerging Artist Award and the Monochrome Award. Over the past three years, compelled to explore themes of identity through moving image, she began making films including “Meet Me Where I Am” (2020) and “Stimming” (a series of short films, 2020). “Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other” marks Manon’s move into documentary film.
