Germaine Acogny, the “Mother of African Contemporary Dance”, is one of Africa’s most important artistic voices. Rooted in traditional West African dances and facing European dance forms, she developed her very own, the Acogny Technique.
More than 50 years on international stages, performing and teaching young dancers worldwide has made her the dancing icon of an entire continent. In 2021 this exceptional woman was awarded with the Venice Golden Lion of Dance for her Lifetime achievement.
