In Roman times, the thermal springs were vibrant places in public life. These bathing establishments, which were freely accessible, were a pivotal point for social interaction. In Varna, Bulgaria, this tradition has survived to the present day in a spa called, "the pit".
This film is a touching study of a microcosm of Bulgarian society as a whole and is a mosaic of intimate and political histories within which debates and discussions are born into a multi-faceted whole. In “The Pit”, opposing viewpoints and overarching trends collide, and, floating above it all, even in the most beautiful weather, the black cloud of monetisation that has infiltrated every last corner of our lives.
