“Can’t you build me a playroom mom?”…asks Rahul as his mother, Rakhi, tries to put him to sleep. “When we finish building the dike, I promise” consoles Rakhi. Stuck on a strip of land devastated by water, the entire village is still waiting for reconstruction aid. Since the disaster hit, they have become nothing but outnumbered “poor people”. Waiting seems to be the only thing to do. Yet they dream, yet after the rain…they go out with their shovels and spades to reclaim the life again.
Ahmad Simon Kamar was born and brought up in a traditional Islamic family. After his graduation in architecture, he started his career as an art director in advertising. After seven years, Kamar changed career paths and started working with filmmaker Tareque Masud. Are You Listening! is Kamar’s first feature documentary. To promote his passion for independent filmmaking, Kamar has initiated a number of national and international film festivals and workshops.
